If you’ve ever told someone you live in Yakima, you’ve heard it: “Oh, apples!” And yes — guilty as charged, we grow a lot of apples. But I recently went inside a real working apple packing facility, and let me tell you, what’s happening in this valley is a whole lot more than fruit.
I was honestly geeking out. It’s loud, it’s fast, and it looks less like a barn and more like a logistics lab that happens to smell like autumn.
FIRA-a global leader in agricultural automation-is bringing North America’s largest ag-tech conference to our regaion. Drones, AI yield forecasting, orchard robots. The future of farming is being demonstrated right here, and the world is going to show up to watch.
Why does that matter even if you’ve never picked an apple in your life? Three reasons:
Jobs: Robotics, AI, engineering, and ops roles grow alongside automation.
Industry: Not just apples-cherries, hops, wine grapes, potatoes, and more all benefit.
Housing: More employers and talent moving in means more demand for homes in this valley.
We are building the future right on top of our roots. And if you’re thinking about what that means for where you want to live, work, or invest-let’s talk. Yakima is a different story than most people expect, and I love being the one to tell it.
